Well done Paul George

So yesterday news broke that Pacers forward Paul George has informed the Pacers he plans to leave the franchise that drafted him and supported him after the 2017/18 season.

For starters good on him for taking a stand and telling the Pacers the truth about his future intentions unlike so many stars who have kept quiet until the end of the season and left for nothing. We know that he is most likely leaving for the Lakers next season but it give the Pacers a chance to trade him for something which is better than nothing like the Thunder when they lost Kevin Durant. I know on good authority that he was always going to leave the Thunder and a heads up to Thunder management before the trade deadline would have been professional for Durant.

You could say the same about James and Bosh when they left for the Heat 7 years ago but they both did do a sign and trade so the Raptors and Cavs did get something in return. The Pacers might still do a sign and trade with the Lakers so George could get an extra season on his contract.

However this morning there is a rumour that the Pacers have contacted Cleveland about a trade that would send him to the Cavs most likely for Kevin Love and maybe some loose parts too. The question on this is if Lebron James can pull the trade off and get him to sign a long term contact or will this just be a rental? With the stories of James ‘maybe’ thinking about leaving too maybe this is a great idea for the Cavs the shed some contracts with a chance to rebuilt quickly if James does leave again and go out with another championship. But getting back to the story maybe James should tell the truth about his future then.

This also shows that it’s not always about money with George expected to leave a lot of money on the table to get his wish. Once again well done to Paul George for telling the truth and if he does stay at the Pacers for the season or just a little bit he is going to get a lot of ‘heat’ for the home fans but at least he has told the truth about his intentions now.
